RTD renewal

Need some feedback on my next RTD renewal.

My current RTD expires this July, but I may be travelling to Greece in September (which I believe needs a visa; anyone knows how long it takes to get one?).

I understand that some of you here have renewed without turning in your current RTD. Should I do the same? Then send it in when they ask for it?

Also, since there's a five-month turnaround now, should I send in my renewal application ASAP?

Mine expires on May. I filled my application online, they send a receipt notice but haven't ask me anything regarding supporting evidence. I suppose they should be sending me something requesting it, but nothing until now. The receipt notice says that my case should take from 240 to 260 days. Hopefully it does not take that long and they don''t give me any trouble for not sending my current RTD.
