RTD expiration

My RTD will expire in Aug 27 but I need to travel to Singapore on Aug 20. I read from the forum that we need to apply RTD 6 months in advance because the waiting period still 6 months backlog. I personally waited for 6 months on my last RTD. I didn't want to go thru that again. However, the new 1-131 form, application for travel document, requires you to state when your travelling document expires...should I state the date my RTD expires? If I do, will INS issue me a new RTD? I'm just worried they think my RTD still valid, won't issue me a new one. Also, travelling to Singapore require 6 months valid RTD...Please advise.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Just apply without sending in your OLD RTD. Attach a letter explaining why you need to keep the old rtd. When your time comes..they may ask you for the OLD RTD..usualy they ask that when an officer is about to approve your application...
