Role change guidance

I wanted to get your guidance on a potential role change within my current company and how it may impact my green card process.

My I-140 is approved under the EB-2 category with a priority date of July 2016.

The PERM was filed under SOC code 15-1121 (Computer Systems Analyst)(Skill level -2) .

At the time of filing , I was working as Technical Solutions Manager.

Now, I am considering switching roles internally to Software Engineer (whose SOC code is 15-1132/15-1252)

Could you please advise:
1.Would this role change require a new PERM and I-140 filing, given the SOC code difference (Computer Systems Analyst vs. Software Engineer)?

2.If a new PERM/I-140 is needed, I understand that I would be able to retain my 2016 priority date — can you confirm?

3.Are there circumstances where this move could still qualify as a “same or similar occupational classification” so that a refiling is not necessary?

Your present job could be AAA and PERM be BBB.

I-140 job has no link with your current job. Your present job could be based on H-1b, L1 or F1 OPT etc.
Keep in mind I-140 is future job your employer offered to you to accept, So I-140 job be not necessarily same as your current job.

New PERM is not required as long as there is no change in previously filed and approved PERM.
