Risk of not Extending EAD

Guys,

can anyone throw some light on this issue of not extending EAD? I have a valid H1 and there is quite sometime left on it. My EAD will expire sometime in May. Other than the fact that I'll not be able to use EAD (if I ever need it, which I doubt) is there any other disadvantage of not extending the EAD?

Just curious if INS expects you to extend your EAD?

Thanks in Advance,

You dont need EAD if you are not planning to use it

Hi Gp

I also have one question in continuation:
I got EAD last year June 2005 which will be valid until june 2006.
At this point of time I am not using this EAD and I have H1 valid until Sep 2007.
Say, If I didn't reniew this EAD now but what will happen if I may need it in Dec 2006 and that time I may need this EAD?

thanks,
-Ada

You don't have to Obtain / Renew EAD if you are not planning to use it. EAD is optional. If you let EAD expire you can still renew it when you actually need it (make sure your apply atleast couple of months before you actually need it)
