Risk assesment for H-1B stamping in Mexico or Canada for TCNs

I am trying to find out what is the risk for TCNs to apply for H-1B stamp in Canada or Mexico and to be sent to their home country to apply there, so that I can decide if I should do it or not.
I came to the US on F-1 and completed college in the US. I started working for a company and changed my status in the US from F-1 to H-1B. I only had F-1 visa in my passport considering that I haven't left US since I got H-1B. After 3 years I just renewed my H-1B for another 3 years with the same company and I would like to get visa stamp for the first time in consulate in Canada or Mexico.
I would like to hear if anybody has had an experience of being required to go back to home country rather than getting a stamp in CAN or MEX. Where is easier to get a stamp, in Can or Mex? I read a lot of success stories on this board, but what like to get a feel if there are people that were not so lucky.
I don't have time or for that matter money to go back to my home country to get a stamp.
Thanks and I appreciate all the help and information...
