Here is the (slightly scary) message for my online status now:

On March 8, 2004, we received your response to our request for evidence or information. It is taking between 990 and 999 days for us to process this kind of case. However because preliminary processing was complete, the remaining processing time will be less than the maximum stated in this message. You will receive a written decision on this case.



If my case is supposed to be approved soon, why the CYA disclaimer of 990 days!

This is a standard message. I have seen this type of message for other types of applications (one of our H1B extensions at one point), where it specifies the original time for processing (e.g. 60-90 days for H1, 990-999 for I485) and says that because preliminary processing is complete it won't take the whole max. number of days. You have to remember that these messages are standard, drop-down list, kind of messages and are not customized for each specific case. I am sure you will be approved in a couple of weeks.
