I have noticed that some cases are approved within one month of RFE received by BCIS while others have to wait lot longer. Is it because of background check?

I have heard that background check takes longer if applicant did not include "state" name while writing their back home address on I-485 form. This is specially true for India as I have heard that zip code is not sufficient to do background check. Is it true? For ex. I have written my home address as add1, add2, Bangalore- 560 001, India instead I should have written add1, add2, Bangalore-560 001, Karnataka, India.

Dhairya, Dravisha, Bobbys, Mahesh999 can throw some light on this as their cases are approved within one month of replying to RFE.

Others who are waiting longer can clearify as to what did they put on the home address? Did they include "state" name?

Now my question is can we call 800 number to change our address to include "state" name? Is it going to do any good in my case as it might already with FBI for background check. I have already replied to RFE.

I personally think that assumption does not hold water. I was fingerprinted for the second time in july of last year. I have confirmed that my prints have been cleared by the FBI. I am still waiting for my approval. The things are extremely random. You got to deal with it.

prasadc, marthak is talking about fbi name check (background check) process. This is not related to the fingerprinting process. FBI usually checks the fingerprints and reports back to USCIS within a week or so.

Name check is much more rigirous and extensive process, and it can take up to a year. They check your name against a list of known names, and if you have a common name or something like that, you name can be flagged, and will require more checks to be done. This slows down the process.

marthak, I do not believe that not writting the state will slow down the process.

Where did you hear this? Do you have any proof that this is true?

I heard it from my friend. When he was assigned to a new project, his manager handed over a background check form (requested by client) to fill up. This form was from the private background check agency. He wrote his back home address without including state name. After a week, background check agency sent an email saying We are not able to locate. Please write state name as for India zip code is not sufficient to complete background check. He corrected his address and sent again. At this time he got OK.

Copy of your passport has all the information (which you gave along with your application) right? I don’t think that is matter. It is Luck.

You are right Vetri. Passport has that information but I think biographic form we file along with I-485 has some more and detailed info. So I think background check may be done based on the info provided on biographic form.

Senior members can provide some more info on this.

the bio graphic form is the form that is send out to the embassy in your home country for background checks. The sole purpose of the biographic form is for background checks, so it is possible that photocopies of passports might not be included when the package is send out for background checks.
