RFE.....Please help!!!

I changed jobs last month based on the 180 day rule. My lousy luck!!! recieved a RFE last week asking for the following details:
1.)Employment letter from sponsoring company specifying my salary and prospects to keep me in the future.
2.) Returns for the last 2 years
3.) Copies of I - 797 and I-171C if available.

Question: Can my new employer send this info? What is form I-797 and I-171C?
My previous employer says that my new employer should handle this. I waited all these years and this is what it has come to......anybody in the same boat?

PD: 04/99
ND: 11/99
FP: 03/01

This is what you should do - Get a letter from your previous employer stating that the offer to hire you on obtaining the green card is still valid (ie he intends to employ you). Also, your current pay stubs from your new employer should suffice. I don\'t see any reason to worry !
