Hi All:

USCIS has issued an RFE on my wife's I-485.

RFE TEXT:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Please submit a copy of your marriage certificate with English translation. The previously submitted affidavits written by the applicants are not acceptable
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Can i translate it myself and get it notarized and send.

Thanks for you advise!!

Check with your lawyer!!

I was under the impression that it had to be translated by an "authorized person". I may be wrong, but this may be critical, so before you submit your own translation, I would check that you talk to an immigration attorney. Please post what you find.

Maybe someone else who had a similar RFE can post information on what they did!!

That's why i asked when he sent the applications. Verification of the documents/translations is usually an initial step in the processing. I've sent my application 2 month ago. All translations were made by me and each one of them had a page signed by person who speaks both languages that translation is correct (she did read the documents too). No notary/paying money. It can't be family member who does such a verification though.
No RFE so far

I did the translation by myself, got a fried to notarized, without any problems.

Not a big deal !!

Thanks Guys!!

Question: I have marriage affidavits instead of marriage certificate, do i have to get marriage certificate and then translate and send it to USCIS

any input will be appreciated.
PD: Oct 2002
