AP Approved

Digitally printed Photos from AAA didn't work

Polaroid Photos from the US Post Office worked like a charm :)

Hi Ma-labor,

Thanks.

Just one query.

Are the Photo Standards the same both for AP and EAD?.I mean these Specs:

Passport-style photos must be 2 inch by 2 inch.
Frame subject with full face, front view, eyes open.
Make sure photo presents full head from top of hair to bottom of chin; height of head should measure 1 inch to 1 3/8 inch (25 mm to 35 mm).
Center head within frame.
Make sure eye level is between 1 1/8 inch and 1 3/8 inch (28 mm and 35 mm) from bottom of photo.
Photograph subject against a plain white background.

Yes they are? But if you look at the last bullet point. It specifically says...
  • Digitally printed photos are not acceptable for I-131, Application for Travel Documents.

This is not a requirement for EAD. I can say this so surely because I got RFE on AP but not on EAD, even though I had sent the same set of photos for both.

Hope this helps.

Just sent a AP package for my wife yesterday with AAA photos. Strange last time we applied for AP we took photos from Wolf Camera. It was a digital camera, but i am not sure what was the printing technology.
How can they make out whether it is digital or regular? This photo looks the same as a regular non-digital photo.

MA_Labor: My wife would be out of the country when it might probably be approved. If the RFE is received, can i sent non-digital photos (ie) does she need to sign the RFE response?

All you need to do is attach the new photos to the RFE notice and send those to USCIS. I have posted the entire content of the RFE in the original post. If you read it, it says ...

digital photo

The I-131 form states that "Digital photographs are not accepted". Which I think means is that you cannot submit photographs in digital format (i.e on storage medias like floppy disks). The photographs should be on glossy thin paper ( no matte finish) unmounted and unretouched.

MA_LABOR,
Did your photographs adhere to the above norms? If yes, then I might be in deep trouble !!

No, I think it says Digitally printed photos are not acceptable for I-131, Application for Travel Documents.

After I got the RFE, I couldn't find a place that took non digital photos. I asked around and someone told me that US Post Office takes non-digital pictures used in the US Passport. I figured if these photos worked for the US passport then they better work for AP. I think overall the photos conformed with the standards posted above. The only differences were that (1) the photos were polaroid (there is no mention of polaroid though), and (2) in order make the photo size 2" X 2" they included a white strip (border) on one side of the photo while cutting it.

RFE on AP

I got a RFE today for my efiled AP. The reason is photos. i didn't know that photos should be sent along with supporting documents. The RFE was sent asking me to send the photos. It also says "Digital Pohots are acceptable".

Polaroid.

Thanks Ma_Labor.
Based on the number of "photo" RFEs we see in this forum, looks like it is really an issue now. Thanks for posting and cautioning us.

Digital photo ?

in Second AP, I took photo from Photoone. I asked him I do not need digital photo. he told me if photo come from negative then it is not digital photo.

I got RFE email. if I have RFE on Photo. from where I can take photo so USCIS accept.

Thanks,

Polaroid, Kinkos, Postoffice

Try getting the photos from a polaroid camera at Kinkos, Post offices. That sure will work.

Hello Guys,

I aplied EAD/AP online yesterday , Can I see the status of these 2 cases online. When I try to check the status it says , those case numbers doesnt not exisit. Is this normal? when can I see the status ? Thanks for your answer.

Status updated after recieving the supporting doc

Status will be updated only after the service center receives the supporting documents. Well thats my experience. Hence, give a few days time after mailing your docs.
