Do they always require to submit an original birth certificate while processing I485?

I've misplaced mine, and little concerned.

Would appreciate your inputs.

No, it is only required a copy with the I-485. If they need the original, they will send you a RFE.

I just received that RFE for an original birth certificate begining of this month. Asked my parents backhome to send me that & now waiting for that. As soon as I receive that I'll mail that to USCIS.

Not necessarilly. RFE's could be anything. As far as my understanding is IO's are given a guideline in order to process a file for an approval. Not always but sometimes IO's ask for RFE's from applicant that way they can show their superiors that they are following their duties as they are suppose to do.
Therefore RFE's don't have any particular pattern. From some they ask for Passport copies, pictures, copies of travel documents, copy of I-94,birth certificate etc. Who knows one of this days DEATH CERTIFICATE too.
Just joking !!!
Now if you notice things those USCIS ask for as an RFE are not really that important for us asylees who have already been through so many checking procedures & received our approval through immigration judge or IO.
So as I mentioned it's just a routine thing. The thing that bothers me most is we are already waiting for so long time than RFE's even make us wait longer time.
