I applied for EAD Renewal myself. The online message changed to RFE. Where the RFE will be sent.

Do you mean that the message changed for the EAD receipt number or your I 485 receipt number?

In my case, both me and my lawyer got RFE letters from INS even though I had applied for EAD through my lawyer

my RFE was for signature and finger prints and the RFE was generated after approving the case.
