RFE and security checks, etc

When they send an RFE, does it mean that the security checks and all the preliminary issues are taken care of?

RFE means "Request For Evidence/Information" No it doesn't mean security clearances. They are requesting information necessary for complete filing. They will give you 87 days upon receiving the notice to send in info. I suggest that you send the info back asap since your application is not considered completed and they can accept it for processing. If you don't send in the requested evidence they will deny your case.

Did you send everything required when you filed. Sometime they are asking for info that maybe you already sent. A lot of times it is stuff to do with the Sponsor such as

tax doucuments
employment letter
w-2 forms

and then it could be something else. Your processing will be delayed and the Notice Date for particular application will begin not when you filed but when the RFE was issued. :o

Thanks for your info. I have already received the RFE and replied the same week. The phone message for my case says that I should hear a decision within 60 days of replying to the RFE. So I was wondering if this means that the security clearances are done and that they are just processing. Do they really get back within 60 days ? Does anybody have experience with that?

I had email on 9/7 saying USCIS had received our RFE reply. The phone message says 60 days but we also had a LUD on 9/13 and online message says "On sep 13...received...."

So I called TSC the other day and asked if I should expect 60 days from 9/7 or 9/13. I didnt get a direct answer... only you should hear soon.

My PD is current so the only thing holding this up is perhaps a security check or the workload on the immigration officer's desk. There's only just over 3 weeks left for the 60 day time period to conclude. I'll post a response if I hear before then.

waiting4cagc,
Thanks for your reply. I did not talk to anybody at the TSC, but the automated message tells that I should get an answer within 60 days of RFE receipt date. My RFE receipt date is 9/21/06. My PD is also current so we are in the same situation. Please keep in touch and post if anything happens.

The above statement is not true.

However, RFE does not mean that security check is done.
