Revalidation of H1-B

Dear Sirs,

I sent my passport with necessary document via Fedex to the Department Of State/Visa St, Loius, MO office for the purpose
of my H1B visa revalidation.

The office received the package on 27 December, 2002.

They say it requires 6-8 weeks, but now its the 10th week of the year.

I have sent fax to thier office, calling 202 663 1225 for the
last few days (tried at different time of day for long holds), but
no reply from them. I also emailed them at usvisa@state.gov. But no reply from there too.

I came to know from my Bank that checks for MRV processing and
visa application were credited to DOS account on 2 January, 2003.

What should be my next step ? I am totaly confused. Someone
here please help me. How long should I wait ?

If you really want to go out of the country..

then send a fax to the number listed on their website and they will mail it back to you asap.
(maybe with no new visa )

Otherwise you just have to keep inquring.

But I have documents that they have collected the money required for processing of revalidation. It was credited to DOS account on 01/02/2003.

How long should I wait ? And what should be my next step if I
do not hear anything from them.

I think you can wait it out for a while..

if the INS says 6-8 weeks and 10 weeks have gone by ..it will not call it a delay at all :(

I hope you sent in a reply back fedex envelope...keep checking the bar code on that for online status on the fedex reply.

HOW TO WITHDRAW AN APPLICATION FOR REVALIDATION

If you submit an application for revalidation and later discover you need your passport while it is in process, you may withdraw your application and request the passport be returned without a visa. Send the request for withdrawal of the case via fax at 202-663-1608. The fax must include:

applicant's name (as it is written in the passport),

applicant's date and place of birth,

applicant's nationality,

visa type (e.g., E, H, I, L, O, P),

method sent (e.g., Fedex, Express Mail, DHL, World Courier, UPS, Priority Mail, etc.),

date the package was received at the Department,

name and return address on envelope, and a

telephone and/or fax number to contact if there are difficulties finding the application.
If the application and passport are at our Washington office, we will make every attempt to send the documents back the next business day. There may be a delay in returning the documents, however, if the application is still being processed in St. Louis. Failure to provide complete information may also delay the return of the passport and supporting documents.

Please be advised that the halting of mail delivery to the State Department in October due to the anthrax crisis led to severe delays in processing. Although mail delivery has resumed, the large volume of applications pending at the Visa Office has made it more difficult to retrieve individual cases promptly when the applicant has requested a withdrawal. The staff of the Visa Office is working hard to reduce the backlog and appreciates your patience.
 
For Revalidation:

Sent passport to St. Loius on 26th December, 2002
Office received it on 27 December 2002.
Visa renewed on 03 March, 2003
Recieved on 10 March, 2003.

Thanks to the folks at St. Loius.

So when it comes to government work Super Power or
Developing Nation does not make any difference.

2 weeks delay is like a batting of an eyelid for the INS :)
anyway glad that you got your visa back !
 
I think extra delay was due to heavy snow fall. Offices were closed for few days. And at end of the year there will be only few staff in all office as its x'mas and new year time.. I assume same with DOS.
