I have done this twice without problems
guess you are referring to H1 stamping at US consulate in India.
Once I did this in Chennai consulate in 97 - no problems whatsoever. Better to have all the documents ready, just in case.
This April, I realized at Mumbai airport my Visa stamp expired
What\'s life without some adventure
?! Airport officials told me to go to Mumbai US consulate next day. The thugs posing as security guards harass you and the people working in cozy air-conditioned comfort inside are no better. There is no such thing called common courtesy. In any case, they had the same-day drop-box system and I got my visa stamped without too much hassles (except for waiting in line in the torrid sun all afternoon). But not for the woman standing next to me who was waiting for H4, they confused her application with mine and put my company\'s name and my name on her H4. The sheer carelessness was appalling ! And to top it, they were not willing to acknowledge their mistake and harassed her about coming back on another day etc. But my experience was good. I guess I was lucky. In any case, except this one unfortunate woman, it looked like everyone else was happy on that day !
After I was sure I got my visa stamped properly, I shouted and blasted them for being so reckless their total disregard for people standing in the hot sun outside esp. the elderly - I literally screamed abuses at the security thugs ! I had had it for one day !
Hope this helps, for whatever it is worth. I am sure others\' experiences wont get any more dramatic
!
