Returning to US for Oath Ceremony

I'm currently travelling in Europe for a few months, but will be returning to the US soon for my oath ceremony in February.

My question is: should I get a US passport after the ceremony and wait till I get it before I leave the US again? I'll be staying in a hotel there, so I don't want to run up a huge bill if this isn't necessary. Can I just take the certificate of naturalization, go back to Europe with my EU passport, and then get the US passport from my home embassy in Europe?
 
You have to get a US passport. By law, US Citizens have to leave and enter US by US passport. If you have a confimed ticket to travel within 2 weeks from the oath date, you can get the US passport at the Regional Passport Agency on the same day, if you call and set up an appointment with them.

would the US embassy in EU question about how would you get to EU without even a valid US passport?
 
Guys, I'm told US law requires all citizens to get a US passport before leaving the USA. I guess I'll have to hang around to apply for it before leaving then.

Can the passport agency really do this in a day or so?

As long as you have confirmed travel plans, they need copy of tickets. Problem could come getting the appointment. In my case none were available before I was flying so I used a travel agent, had to pay $100 but overall it cost me $60 more as I didn't have to pay approx $40 for overnight mail charges.
 
Could you explain that again? What do you mean you used a travel agent?

If I hang around the US for around 10 days, should that be enough time to guarantee getting an appointment and the passport, in people's experience?
