My friend is in his first year of his MBA in the US and his application for Perm Residency is being processed.
What does he need to do when he receives his visa? SHould he live one semester in Canada and come back to the US to finish his MBA? Or can he ask for an extension while he finishes his MBA?
He doesn\'t want to loose his Canadian Perm Residency.

Thanks.

land in canada and continue MBA in US

He can land in canada and return to US to study. It would be
better if he applies for Return resident permit, reason being
improving academically etc etc.

Check with the Canadian consulate in the US

***This is not legal advice***

Consulated abroad are starting to tell applicants that returning resident permits are no longer needed, due to the implementation of the new law. Further to this, I recently spoke with Immigration Canada and they said that the consulates abroad are starting to phase in the new regulations concerning returning resident permits.

So, if your friend is leaving now, or he has already left but will not be over 4-5 months on July 28th, he should wait for the new implementation of the law. This way, if the law will still require some sort of application he has enough time to do it.
