Retiring to the US

We are two retired Canadians - a Teacher/Administrator and a professional Engineer with self supporting pension incomes. We would like to live in Hawaii and still be able to visit back to Canada. There doesn't seem to be any Visa's that allow this. I've been told the only way is to go for 6 months less a day. once per year. This would mean two residences one in each county which is not doable. Is there any other ways of doing this?

If you want to keep yourself busy, one of you could also enroll in a college which would allow both of you to stay in the US on F1 and F2 student visas. (It's gonna cost you, but if you enroll at a community college and get yourself a forklift operator certificate and other useful pieces of paper, the expense can be reasonable)
The other option would be for one of you to get a job in one of the TN categories, at least part of the year. Many retired folk in this country work at least part-time (most of them have to due to the minimal benefits from social security and the often shaky company pension schemes).

Go to Holywood,FL (next to Ft Lauderdale). In winter, the place is packed with Quebec license plates. You could probably ask any of them how they sneak by the border patrol every year.
