Restart 6 years of H1B

I am going to comple 6 years on my H1B visa. To reset my H1B visa do I need to be out of the country for 1 year or is it ok for me to travel to the US on a tourist visa. Please advise.

In order to reset 6 year H1B period, you should leave U.S. for 1 year. You cannot be present in U.S. in any status.
