Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX:

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts on the 10,000 limit on the number of Green Cards issued to asylees each year. I am always happy to hear from XXXXXans and am interested to know your thoughts on this issue.

Again, thank you for taking the time to inform me of your view. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

United States Senator

This is a promising response. My previous letter (if you remember) was not positive and I did not find time to respond to it. However, this time I can respond to this senator because at least he can listen, plus I can try to meet with him to present our case. Any suggestions? I already have an idea what to say, but any other input is welcome. Did anybody get this kind of response before? Is it worth pursuing it? If he can push our case in the Senate, that would be great. Back to you people …

His statement: " If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me" is a typical American statement that implies that he is ready to help you with other things and that he got your idea and would like you to move on. If this guy really wants to help you, he would be saying that he would bring this issue for discussion in Congress or that he may want to change this freaken law to ease the suffering of asylees. I hate to be a pessimist but I think he is basically telling you not to bother him again with this and that he can do nothing about it.

Well, good post ... however, I'm optimist (but not for his help). I have learned how to be patient over these years. Maybe it is time to start attacking. I can be very inspiring and I think it is time to meet with him and exchange ideas (of course, if he wants to meet with me). But considering how many people from my country is in this state, I would be interested to meet with me. Get my point? I can call, and call and call and call … it is free call anyway. Only my time … Let’s see what happens. At least I will hear from him if we, asylees, have any chance and then as you said, get over with it …

I agree with Shamshon.

Even Gilbert :(

Well, I got nothing to lose. I will call and try to meet with him. At least we will know from first hand what the situation is and wheter this issue will ever be resolved. You guys are right no disrespect, but at least if this issue ever comes up in the Senat or House, we might have somebody on our side.

And just to mention, this is not the same senator that responded last time. Thanks for you input.

Cmmon Shamshon and Gilbert, seems like you've been here for so long you can no longer see the light at the end of the tunel. And don't tell me there is no light, cause there is. At least someone (like "nofreedom") is trying to pursue things that most of the folks here have given up on.
To me that response from the Senator didn't sound like "Don't write me about this anymore" Yeh he didn't invite action but he didn't say NO also. What suprised me the most is the Senators words like "I am interested to know your thoughts on this issue"... Thoughts?!??! This is a very serious issue, affecting the lives of thousands of people. "Nofreedom" I don't know what you wrote to him/her but next time try to give him some figures and don't be so nice. I'm sure there's a lot of people here who are with you, so don't ever get discouraged. Trust me, most of here would rather sit on our asses and whine (that includes me) than do something about it. My respect and a hand shake to you. Good luck.

boncorne thanks for the support. But don't be discouraged by Shamshon and Gilbert. They did help so much in this forum and they know what they talking about. Many people tried to go my way, and they never succeded. I know it can be harsh from them, but they are right. You have to admit. I understand where are they comming from. However, besides their opinion, I will try to meet with my Senator, just to see what he has to say. Even them would say it won't hurt. It might take me some time to do it, but I will feel better if I did something. In any case, I will let you know. Who knows, when you are nice to Senator, maybe there is a 1% chance (maybe less) that he will help us. It might be too small of the chance, but it is still a chance Right? :D

It's very nice of your Senator to reply. But I share my pessimism with Shamshon. There is already a lobbying effort by the AILA to remove the 10k cap on Asylee AOS but nothing new has been heard after a Senate hearing that was held in 2000.
I wouldn't discourage asylees with their letter writing campaign to reform the currently policy on Asylee adjustments but don't expect immediate results.
