Resigning while on L-1 Visa (URGENT)

Hi,

I will describe to you the whole situation in detail:

My wife and I work with a bank (Bank A) here in the US. I am on an L-1 visa, and she is on an H-1B visa. I am currently interviewing with another bank (Bank B) in London, UK. I will get to know in about 10 days whether I have an offer from them or not. If I get an offer, my wife and I are thinking of resigning from our current jobs and moving to London. As per my contract with the current employer (Bank A), I have to let them know about the offer from a competitive firm as soon as I accept it. And also, as soon as they know about it, they have to let me go, meaning I can't work for even one more day with them. According to my understanding, as soon as I stop working with Company A, my L-1 visa will become invalid. Similarly, as soon as my wife serves her last day (expected to be withing 0-15 days of my last day), her H-1B visa will also become invalid. But, we will need some time in the US to wrap thing up like sell our car, sub-let our apartment, close all bank accounts, etc.

In the above situation, I have a few questions where any help would be greatly appreciated:

i. Is there a way for us to stay in the US for 30-60 days after resigning? Would really appreciate if you could provide a detailed answer to this. We want to make sure that we know all the risks involved.

ii. After resigning, can we apply for the UK visas from the US itself? I will have to apply for a work visa, and she will apply for some sort of dependent visa I believe.

iii. As I mentioned earlier, my wife is here on an H-1B visa (which is valid until September 2013). Let's say we decide to come back to the US in about 6-9 months, will she be able to start working on the same H-1B visa if she finds a new sponsor. Or, will she have to re-apply for a new H-1B visa?

I know it is a bit involved, but we will really appreciate your thoughts/comments on the above.

Regards,
Ankit Aggarwal
