residency requirements for GC parents

hello,
what are the residency requirements for parents having GC. i am thinking of applying GC for my parents but they want to spend some time in india every year. do you have to spend 6 months every year as i heard from many people? what is the correct information?
 
GC= Permanent Resident

They need to spend the majority of their time, ie live in the US, maintain US residence, file US taxes if applicable. In other words, they need to maintain ties to the US even while visiting abroad.
