Residence stamp from another country and GC

This board has me thinking. I (USC)have PR status in another country since 1995 or something. My husband is now a GC holder here. I had asked the attorney if this matters or do I need to get rid of that and was told it should not. I have since applied for citizenship there based on marriage but did not come through yet..(never want to have problems in either of our birth countries)....That should not even be a problem right ?? (I Asked this too from her).

ANyway....you can loose this stamp if you are away from that country for 2.5 years. I don't see how it could obstruct our responsibliities to uphold the US GC. When I enter that country (spouse home country) I write US as country of residence...since we got the GC...

As I said..I had asked but I am still curious if anyone else sees a problem..

Thanks!

True Canadian I am expecting an answer from you..lol

Maybe I did not understand it fully, or you were not clear, but I get a feeling you are mixing up things.

If a US citizen has a residence stamp from another country, I do not think it should impact the spouse GC or citizenship. With your marriage it could be explained as the cost of living together, and citizens can live anywhere anyway.

The GC holder's documents are what need to be good. If the GC holder is living in another country, obviously that is a problem. But if the GC holder comes and lives in USA, and probably the spouse also does that, and spend 2-3 years here before naturalization (will need 18 months of residency under marriage based naturalization anyway, right), I do not think they can raise many issues.

Thank you...was me not clear. I was working online ALL DAY yesterday till late...so I was tired.

Bottom line the GC, all our applications, etc are fine, truth. I happened to have a residency stamp from his birth country, since we lived there, for years. I never gave it back nor do I know if you have to. The times spent in or out of that country with a PR stamp or very lenient. I am in the process of citizenship there..should be here any day (based on our marriage). You can get citizenship based on marriage or a permanent resident. I happen to have the PR stamp, but my application as citizen was marriage basis...

SO...anyway..i do think everything is ok. Like you said as long as the GC holder is fine, all is ok..Me, spouse (GC) and children are all here in US now.

THanks !

If your GC spouse had PR in another country, that could be a problem.

But as a US citizen, your PR status for the other country doesn't create a problem.
