Rescheduling visa interview appointment

I am slated for interview on 5th January, 2012 but it is quite obvious that I wont be able to make it on that day. This is due to my wife whom is writing her MBBS examination on that day. I had mailed the appropriate quarters (LagosIV@state.gov and smart core) but I have been contemplating on going on that day alone if the sent mail is not replied before the day (5th Jan.) or wait outright for the reply.

In this thought, I called Nigeria embassy and explained the rigors. The man in his huge voice said, I don't need to come, while the mail would be attended to. He said many are absent on their appointment date and the embassy knows that such applicants would reschedule their appointment.

Please forumites, had anybody experienced this, if so, how was is solved.
More so, should I go to embassy on the 5th January if there is no respond of the sent mail or I should absolutely rely on the mail to be replied and go on the rescheduled date.

@Tonnyblue, i wuld advice u to Re-schedule ur interview date with the Embassy, cos as it is, u are not prepared for it at all. It will not be funny to av spent that kind amount of money($819)each for yourself and family and later to be denied of the visa all becos of impatient. Pls send the Embassy in Nigeria an E-mail informing them of ur decision to re-schedule your interview date and also send a copy to KCC, just to be on a safer side. If for instance u didn't get a reply from them b4 the interview date, i wuld suggest u go to the Embassy very early on that date with a copy of the mail u sent to them requesting for a change of interview date. I know someone there will be able to contact u with the people incharge of ur case. Pls let us know soonest as u progressess. Much love bro!
 
@tonnyblue i wud go wt wat @ovicity said just go 2 d embassy wt d sent email copy of reschedule n also write or contact KCC abt ur reschedule. like i said in d other thread dat it is better u reschedule d interview 4 another date wt ur wife since she wud b writin her MBBS exam on january 5.
