rescheduling AOS interview is it a good idea?

I was married to a USC last January 2004. We filed our GC application last April. And lastweek I received an interview notice for Sept 7. The problem is my husband is in our country right now for his schooling and school end on October. If he's going to leave school he must drop his schooling and we dont want to waste all the money we spent for his schooling. And we didnt know that it will be this fast. The reason why he's studying in our country instead in here coz it's cheaper there. My question is, It is ok to reschedule our interview?.....If we reschedule are we the one who's going to pick the date?....please help me asap
 
I heard that this kind of reschedule will take years. So, it is always the best to follow this schedule even though you have to spend some money on air ticket.
