rescheduled visa appointment

I had immigration visa appointment on 17th June 2005(E3). I sent a mail to Chennai consulate to reschedule my appointment. Today is 15th Sep'05. I have'nt recieved any communication from them. I checked appointment schedule for Oct'05 and my case number is not there. Any ideas, how rescheduling works.

Do you really think NVC would take back your visa number?

Are they allowed to do that?

That would suck!

at what point it the process do we get assigned a visa number?

BCIS is not accepting any new I485 until visas become current, does that mean that they will not forward any new CP cases to NVC?

My prioirity date is 28Oct2000.

When I rescheduled my initial appointment, I got the following reply from Chennai
unit.

Dear Applicant,

After 15th July, again I got the following mail from Chennai unit.

Dear Applicant,

We regret to inform you that E3 numbers are currently
unavailable. We are unable to predict when the numbers
become available. Please wait till we contact you.
