Hi,
I sent my N-400 application a month ago and I got my fingerprints letter a couple days ago.
I checked my case status online and it says :"we mailed a notice requesting additional evidence or information in this case N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the requested information. This case will be in suspense until we receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once we receive the requested evidence or information and make a decision on the case, you will be notified by mail."

Is the request for evidence the fingerprints letter?

Thanks in advance.

That´s correct. RFE in website mean USCIS requests fingerprints and background checks from FBI.
In addition, you already received your Fingerprint Letter. The next step is receive Interview Letter and you will see in the website Testing and Interview in the case status.

For people who have been a citizen for a while, does the only status ever get updated after Naturalization?

There is no guarantee of status update. However, so many people have reported receiving RFE status update (for fingerprinting) that I would think that happens for almost everyone. Status update around or after oath is very rare from feedback on these boards.

Yes, that's it. Next is transfer to local office and interview.
good luck.

pheeeew Thank you! I just read the same thing on my case status and immediately thought that I must've forgotten to send one of the required documents.
They need to change the wording on that notice - They make it sound like you are actually missing something
