Simple question...hoping for simple answer:

Example: Left USA Sep 1, 08; return is Sep 23, 08...so we count 22 days or we have to be specific for case when we may have left on early am on Sep 1, 08 and returned at late pm on Sep 23, 09 ...could be 23 days in rounding...

To be on a safe side, we count 23 days ?

(sorry i may sound nuts...but tight deadline to get my citizenship...do not want to delay application process)...Experts/folks with experience please help...

Use dates difference.
This is not a big deal (assuming you don't have trips longer than 6 months and total days out side US for more than 900 days)

I counted the travel days as outside US, even if I did not land in (depart from) the destination country on the same day. No questions asked by IO about it.

For a few short trips it really does not seem to matter. At my interview, the IO got to that section and just said "a few short trips," and went to the next question. I had my passport ready with all the stamps but it was not even looked at.

If you have long trips and they start to look back to back by a few weeks, then days may be important.

You need to give specific facts to get specific answers.

I am going to do the same thing except one trip in which officer handwritten on stamp - 1 week using entry minus exit date convention.

By the way, did USCIS stop stamping Passports with entry stamp for LPRs ? ? I and my wife recently (late August) entered via Chicago O'hare...today i looked, no entry stamp was put by officer.

Sep 1 to Sep 23 would be 21 days for the purpose of the N-400. The departure date and arrival date are treated as full days within the US, regardless of what time of day you left, so only the dates in between are to be counted.

Jacko is perfectly right. Any part of the day (even 1 hour) spent in the US should be counted as being in the US. One of the online USCIS instruction document clearly states that (don't remember which one though).

Guys,
Has anyone been grilled on the number of trips taken or even the length of the trips?
(even though they met continuous residency requirement)

I have taken total of 18 (840 days) for business and vacation.

Do you live in the US or on vacation? Do you maintain any residency in the US? Have you filed all taxes?

It is not only the number of days, it is the duration and the closeness of departures and arrivals that will also count for or against continuous residence.

You need to post the dates to get a better idea from the people here.

Dude,

A quick glance at your trips tells me that you don't live in the US. period. I am sorry, you trips are extended and possibilty you work overseas because I don't know any employer who can have someone traveling as much and still be on their payroll... I don't have the time to do the calculation, but within every 6 months, you have been in the US on average 8 days, so I think someone can try to solve this sore...

yeah. i realize that. I do believe I have maintained continuous residency, though. Hence I can apply. I was traveling to the Caribbean for quite a while. Considering I did pay my mortgage and paid my taxes, I will probably consult an attorney and submit the application. I'll let you guys know what happened.
