What is the purpose of the following?

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen.....

As always, JoeF is spreading wrong information.

Individuals are responsible for their actions. When an individual takes the oath saying he/she will renounce all loyalty with other countries, and then turns around to take up Dual citizenship... it is the typical example of a morally bankrupt person. When you ask the question, "whats the purpose"... you are pointing out the time-bomb that is ticking in our country (US) that is bound to explode because of the Dual Citzens who have no loyalty to US.
