Renewing the passport stamp at POE

Hi,

We are family of four and we\'ve got our passport stamped last July through AOS. To date, we have not received my wife\'s plastic card :-( I know we have to get in line at the local INS to renew the stamp, but you know, it will be an unpleasant experience.

So I just wonder it\'s possible or not, that reenter the US just before the passport stamp is expired, and ask for the renewal at the port of entry. Has anyone of you did this way?

Thanks.

Some POE issue I-94 for PRs as a pilot program. Maybe you
can use that I-94 as your temporary GC at least for domestic
use and travel to Canada for which no surrender of I-94
is required at border crossing.

Those days are gone when surrender of I-94 wasn\'t required at the boarder.

They have recently changed it. The I-94 will have to be surrendered when going to Canada or Mexico. Even for visa stamping purposes, if you don\'t get the visa at a boarder post, you have to go back to your country directly from Canada. You won\'t be able to enter back into the U.S.

Thank you all. Seems that it is not possible to renew the stamp at the POE, sigh...

Today, I called the INS regarding my wife\'s case. The officer was courteous, but what she said was surprising. It turns out that my wife\'s file was sent to some place called "record center" before her I-89 was processed. So she ordered to send the file back to CSC on the fly and would process the I-89 again when it arrives, and said that we would expect to receive her card within 30 - 45 days. Is there anybody gone through such a situation? Could you share your experience?

Thanks.
