Renewing passport in Houston

This may not be the right forum but please share if you know answer:

My passport is expiring and I need to get a new one from Indian Consulate in Houston. I want to go in person to do it.

Any one knows how long it takes for them to give a new passport ?

If you live in houston, you can go during 9 and 12:30 and give the passport for renewal. They take a week to do that and u'd have to pick it up around 4:00pm. This website should help you out. I did that couple of months back

One week

Indian embassy in Houston normally takes a week.
If you drop by between 9 and 12.30, your new passport is ready by same day next week...

You will have to have 6 months of valid visa to US (or legal stay status) to apply for renewal
