Renewing green card - space in name

Hello,
I am trying to renew my mother's green card. The one she has now has a space in her first name "ABC DEF." However, when I tried to renew online, the online application form would not accept space character in the given name field. What should I do? Can I remove the space and just enter "ABCDEF"? Or, should I make DEF the middle name?

I would rather opt for removing the space character but I'm worried it might cause an issue and delay the process.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

I can not say for sure. To put more context into this discussion, it's a Korean name. A lot of Asian names suffer from similar issues I believe. They generally have 2 character name which are generally connected with a hyphen when they convert it to an English version. "ABC-DEF" However, because different government agencies have different requirements about the name (i.e. no restriction, no hyphen, no space, etc.) her name is different in different forms of ID's. I believe she no longer has any with hyphen in them but I know she has her name in few of other formats:

ABC DEF
ABCDEF
ABC D (second character/word considered middle name).

I think her Canadian passport has the space in it.

In any case, I did talk to my lawyer friend who works in immigration office and he deals with such case a lot and he had success with putting the words together:

AbcDef

He told me to capitalize the first letter of the second word just in case. He said it worked for him so far in the cases where he had to e-file. He also told me that the employees have dealt with such situation quite often so they usually know what to do about but also that I'm totally at the mercy of the reviewer's discretion. Yikes!

He said he usually avoid e-filing because online form enforces the "no space in name" rule and also he doesn't want things to get lost in electronic transmission. (He apparently doesn't realize how equally unreliable USPS can be... many chances for human error. Haha. He's just bit old fashioned.)

I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes.
