Renewing expired PR card

Hello,

I landed in Canada in 2005 and had to return back to India within few months due to family emergency. Since then I have not visited Canada, nor have I communicated about my abrupt return to the Canadian authorities/consulate.

With the PR card technically being expired, I heve 2 options:

- explore the possiblity of renewing the card issued in 2005. Is this possible? Is there a way to apply for renewal under compassionate grounds?

- if the renewal is not possible can I apply afresh for the residency from the scratch. Will my earlier status influence the new application?

Since you were not residing in Canada at all after landing, your PR status expired. So, you cannot renew the card.

My guess would be that it would not influence the future application, but I may be wrong.
