Hi all,

My friend's parent overstayed in the USA for several years and left for India. Now his passport has expired(INDIAN). Does Indian passport office cause any trouble if he applied for renewal of Indian passport.

In other words, are there any rules in India if a person overstays illegally abroad?

I really appreciate any inputs on your direct experience of any people that you have seen.

Thanks a lot.

Why should there be any problem? I really doubt India cares whether someone violates US immigration law.

They will just ask you why you didnt do it within year of expiration.
Here is what you need
1) 4 Passports picture
2) Uitlity bill in his name
3) Copy of current GC or work permit with drivers license.
3)Application form filled out and noterised.
4)Notersied letter stating why you didnt renew your passport with a reasonble explantion. They dont care! just want to know why you didnt do ti in time. The administration folks at the Indian Emabssy are much nicer than the last adminitration.More friendly and helpful.Go Congress Paty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

India passport renewal after overstay in USA

boatbod and dckaraja

Thanks guys for u response...:-) This is such a wonderful forum that none of the questions go unansered. thanks to the always enthusiastic audience.

boatbod, your response is quite convincing. why shud India care abt USA visa violations. however, we were concerned about the actions after 9/11 and all that terrorism things going on. From that if USA demanded India to keep track of illegal aliens...reading too much into things...ha ha

dck, i appreciate u response. I guess u r thinking he is in the USA. however, he is in India now. His passport has just expired(few months).

Do any of u know what happens to the people who get deported? Do they face any problems in India to travel to any other countries? I guess they DONT. Their status with Indian passport still stays OK I guess.

Smile and the world smiles with you! :-) :-) :-)

My understanding is India has more trouble with you becoming a USC, so thats probably why they ask to see your GC or visa.
