Renewal of E-2: How long in advance possible?

Hello,

Our E-2 is expiring in March 2010. Can we already renew it in August 2009 - 7 months prior to the date or is there a specific time frame?

This is what I found out myself today:
According to the Milan Consulate, there is no law in place that mentions a time frame.
