I am currently a canadian PR and I have been living outside Canada for the past 2 yrs. I plan to enter a couple of months before the 3 yr limit and then plan to stay continously to satisfy the 2 yr requirement to maintain PR. Question I have is once I complete 2 yrs in canada my PR card would have expired and I would still another yr to apply for citizenship. Can I extend my PR card or renew it till I can complete 3 yrs in Canada and then become eligible for citizenship? Will it be looked up on unfavorably for any reason?

Thanks in advance

Once you enter Canada and live there you will be in Status. Your PR card's validity would have expired. Just like being in Status in USA with a expired visa. PR card is more of a travel document. If you do not plan to travel in the last year, you do not need a new PR card. Otherwise you can apply to renew your PR card. You will have to proove that you have maintained your PR status.

thanks, how do you then go back and forth at that time? I will have to go back and forth and hence the issue.

You have to surrender your PR card to get a new one. Do you do that using a travel document abroad and COPR? Or do you show some kind of receipt and based on that they let you in since you have applied for a renewal
