Renewal AP and Travel- Pl help

Hi,
I have an existing AP which is valid till Sep 25, 2005.
I am planning to file renewal AP next week.
I also am planning to travel to India and return using the exsiting AP in Aug 2005.
After filing the renewal AP, is it legal to travel using the existing AP and return before its expiry.

I would really appreciate your replies on this.
