Relocation question

I have applied for 485 at VSC in April 02. Im currently a resident of NJ. If I were to relocate to Florida (same employer), what steps do I need to follow. Does Florida fall under VSC ? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

You can do that...

Even if you move/belong to a state which does not come under VSC jurisdiction, VSC can process your 485. All you need to do is inform VSC about the change in address. (Call IIO). Also, ask your lawyer - some people file a form (AR-11 or something) to inform INS about the new address. In any case, speak to an IIO after 1-2 months and make sure they have the new address.

Important: Before you move, inform the local post ofice about the change of address and make sure they redirect your mail to the new address. So that you\'ll surely get your FP notice at the new place. Goodluck!

No Title

Thanks for your input. I read somewhere on this board that the 485 process gets transferred to the service center that the state falls under. Im getting conflicting views here. I also heard that the USPS does not forward INS-related mail, is that true ?

Doesn\'t US Postal Service redirect mail to new address

if we move to a new place? Does anybody have information on this? Pl post. Thanks

You\'ve to inform the local post office at the old place about the address change

If you go to the local post office (before you move), they\'ll give you an address change form where you can give them the new address and a \'start date\' to redirect all your mail. ONLY THEN, the local post office will redirect your mail.

There might be a possibility...

It might happen that VSC transfers the case, but I do not know much about those rules. I am from Chicago (NSC jurisdiction) and my case was always at VSC. I received the FP notice from NSC (it happens with many people). However the FP results were sent back to VSC and the case is at VSC. My RD 12/26/2001.

About USPS, I think they redirect ALL your mail nce you inform them. Besides, INS mail has no special appearance. It comes in a white envelope and looks like any other official mail - bank statements etc. Unless USPS is spending extra time and efforts in finding INS mail and screwing up people\'s cases inspite of informing them about the change in address...

There is definitely a possibility that the case might get transferred to the local INS. I am a june/2001 filer and my RFE response was received by VSC on 03/27. I called up VSC on the 6th of May to give a change of address. The IIO did tell me that my case might get transferred as I moved out of VSC jurisdiction to another state that comes under NSC.
