I am in the process of getting my OCI with the intention of relocating to India.
what are the disadvantages of working in india as a US citizen?
what are the tax, earnings and repatriation of funds and other implications of working in India for several years as a US citizen.

The actual OCI Certificate of Registration lists only benefits which are three in number:

1. Grant of multiple entry, multi-purpose life long visa to visit India
2. Exemption from registration with FRRO/FRO for any length of stay in India
3. Parity with NRIs in economic, financial and educational fields except in matters relating to acquisition of agricultural/plantation properties.

This phrasing is from the certificate - verbatim.

Also, as a US citizen and permanent resident, you are required to report (and file your return based on) your world-wide income. Obviously, you get credits/adjustments for any taxes you pay to foreign (non-US) entities. With so many people working across geographical boundaries these days, there must be many professional accountants - both in US and India - who you can turn to for advice.
