Regular paspor or Travel Document

Hello everyone -
I have a question about travelling outside US for a permanent resident (who obtained the status from asylum).
Which one is safe and recommended by USCIS: Traveling with COP paspor or travel document?
This travel destination is to anywhere outside the U.S. (less than 6 months), and not to country of persecution (COP).

The reason I'm asking is because it always takes more time and more money to apply a travel document than to renew a paspor.

Thanks for your response.

Lot of lawyers and veterans of this board recommend you obtain a Travel document(RP or RTD) just to be safe. However many on the board including myself have renewed NP and use that to travel. Everyone has a reason, if you can't or dont want to obtain a NP, its all ok but if you rather travel using NP because RP or RTD takes years to get then I am sure you can explain that to any officer who asks you in the future.

So its really up to you. USCIS officers at the port of entry always ask where is your NP when you show a RP...but if you tell them I dont have it is also ok. You may go through secondary if you use RTD or RP but it depends on the officer and the airport.

So its up to you.
