Regarding the 3 photos we send along with OCI application to SFO office.

Do they affix one of that photo to the US passport? or just U-visa stamp in the passport with no picture?

Where is the photo used? In the OCI booklet they send separately (whats in this OCI booklet)? Or do they just retain the pics, and we dont get any booklet or stamp back with photo affixed.

They probably take a digital scan the third picture (what they do with it after that, I don't know) . Both the U-visa sticker and the OCI booklet have a small digitized picture included. OCI booklet is a thin passport-sized book saying that GOI recognizes you as an OCI, etc.

when u travel to india, do u need to carry both U-visa(in US passport) and OCI booklet, or just U-visa is sufficient? Any tips?

Atleast the DC Indian Embassy is saying to carry your OCI booklet along with your US Passport (with U Visa). This message is in red bold fonts indicating to do this and avoid "Denial of admission".

"ATTENTION:

IN ORDER TO AVOID PROBLEMS AT THE INDIAN IMMIGRATION INCLUDING DENIAL OF ENTRY INTO INDIA, THE OCI CARD HOLDERS ARE REQUESTED TO CARRY THE PASSPORT WHERE THE 'U' VISA STICKER IS PASTED TOGETHER WITH THE OCI REGISTRATION CARD WHEN TRAVELING TO INDIA."

Ah, so one more booklet to carry! Oh well.

In theory it may be 'required', but as a practical matter I know many people who have traveled to India and back with OCI visa and no one ever asked them for OCI booklets at entry/exit points. It's no big deal to carry it, but if you don't (or forget to do so), I don't think there is much to worry about.
