regarding reentry permit

Hello,

I am reapplying for reentry permit. My previous reentry permit has expired. I was told by a friend of mine who reapplied and got reentry permit for 2nd time that he has send his expired reentry permit along with his application. I called USCIS and asked the representative whether I should send expired reentry permit along with my application form. He told me reentry permit should be attached if it is still valid and in my case since it has expired I should not send it.

I am confused. Should I send the expired reentry permit?

Secondly I checked the Application Support Center which services my area code. The location of that ASC is not convenient for me. There is another ASC which will be best for me. If I attach a note along with form I131 requesting them to schedule my biometrics in the Application Support Center convenient for me will they honor it?

Also since I am in a hurry to get my biometrics I just want to make sure they dont delay the whole process, will a request for a particular ASC delay the appointment?

I am going to send a certified mail. If I send it to the address provided for Express mail would it be okay? The address for USPS mails is PO Box and typically in PO Box there may not be anybody to sign when postman delivers the mails.

You don't need to return the expired permit.

They will ignore your request for a specific ASC. They'll just go ahead and pick a location based on your address. But once you get the biometrics notice, you can attempt a walk-in at another location before the scheduled date. Don't call and ask if they accept walk-ins; they'll often tell you NO over the phone, but if you show up and they're not busy they'll usually accept you.

Guys, my reentry permit expires in August 2012.

When I applied for it, I told them it was because of "academic reasons" - like finishing school. It seems that I'm going to finish my degree early next year 2011.

I guess I would be on the safe side going back to the USA right after that - so would only show them I just finished the school and I'm good to go. Finishing school has been the main reason for this travel.

But ...

WHAT-IF I go travelling somewhere or take an internship in another country for couple of months before going back? Is that still OK to do, providing I'm still going to return before my reentry permit expires?

You can still stay abroad until August 2012. With the reentry permit, as far as preserving the GC is concerned, it is acceptable to go abroad for one reason and then continue to stay abroad longer for another (but not beyond the RP expiration).
