Hi all, sorry to be redundant...

Does birth certificate have to be included into the I-485 package? I am looking through the wonderful instructions on -->
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=i130guide2
and see that it says AND/OR "A copy of the intending immigrant's birth certificate and/or passport along with English translation"
(I do attach copies of my passports)

At the same time I read quite a few posts mentioning that a birth certificate is necessary and people sometimes received RFEs for it. Would you say I should make an effort to include one? It should be a translated copy of course?

I wouldn't say anything. How important is it for you to get a GC? Just include the birth certificate with an english translation. The USCIS does not have people working there that can read alll languages, after all you are in America! Translate it.

"Making an effort" referred to the fact that I would have to ask my relatives in a foreign country find the certificate, take it to be translated and notarized and fax it to me. If it was as easy as taking it to a copying machine, I wouldn't even think twice...but thanks for your input!!

Yeah I can see were you are coming from. But I can tell you this, you DO need your birth certificate. And if I were you, I wouldn't send USCIS a copy of a FAXED birth certificate. I can almost guarantee an RFE!

just remove...

...the headers of the fax and make the copy look like a real copy of BC, you are only supposed to take the real BC for the interview. you are ok, get the fax. '
YES a BC is REQUIRED for 485 !!
