Refugee Resettlement Question

Hello this is a weird situation for a friend who was granted Asylum in January 2002 and applied for his gc in 2003. He got married recently in 2005 in Germany. His wife has a temporary protected status in Germany but she can't travel since she has no documents.

The reason he got married was due to traditions(he was engaged when he was 5), he is from a muslim country(both are christians) and had to honor the traditions.

Now the poor chap is stuck in U.S while his wife is in germany. He applied for derivative asylum but it was rejected because it was after 2 years since he was granted asylum.

What can he do? Can he try to apply for refugee resettlement for his wife from germany? Does anyone have any information on refugee resettlements in germany to the united states?..

Any guidance to him will be helpful to him. HE is not computer savvy so i am trying to help him.

Thanks.

My God, this is terrible. I appreciate traditions, but he should have let her marry another person with protected status or another who already settled in Germany. This way she could start her family there. There seems to be no way for him to bring her even if they remove the cap and he receives his green card

Go to the state department home page and read up the current policies on refugee resettlement. They do give some preference to spouses of US asylees if other conditions are met. I guess the biggest hurdle is they will say that the she is already safe in Germany.

Good luck.
