Refiling green card after losing one before

If a person on Green card(GC obtained through employment) is out of the country(say for taking care of parents back home) for say 5-6 years then he automatically loses his GC. My question is,

1) If he finds a sponsorer, can he again reapply for GC and be able to use his previous GC perm application priority date?
2) Will it hurt his chances of getting a GC since he had one before?

2) No, having a GC before doesn't hurt the chances of obtaining a fresh new GC.
