Reentry Permit

Hello, my mother recently got her green card and arrived in the US on May 26th. I applied for her reentry permit to allow her to India to stay for an year or so to wrap up stuff there like property, etc.

From what I am hearing she can leave the US to go back to India once her biometrics done even though the reentry permit is pending. My plan is for her to go back to India around the September time frame and let her stay there till her reentry permit expires.

Can you please let me know if this is OK or if there will be any problems.

Yes, you can leave after biometrics and get the permit sent to the closest consulate for collection.

Depends what you mean by “problems”. The permit (within expiry limit) will show she hasn’t abandoned her green card and should allow her easy entry back into the US. However, if she wants to apply for citizenship the permit doesn’t protect her from/get around meeting the continuous residence and physical presence requirements.
