reentry permit

i don't know whether this is the right forum to post my concern.
I and my husband are planning to come US next month. We got temporary visa for green card. Just wondering how long does it take to get the green card. We are planning to stay for just one month as i have to complete my study for about 1 and 1/2 year more. Can i apply for reentry permit before i get my card? Or do i need to wait for it. Also, after applying for rentry premit do i need to wait for the permit to be accpeted or can i give home address of my country where i am returing for my completion of my study

thanks for the reply. Yeah it's a immigrant visa. Since you said that it might take upto a year so can't i leave US until i get it because i have to complete my study. So, what can i do in this situation

The card can take more then 2 weeks also. So don't base your plans on rec. your card in 2weeks.
