Will immigration office offer any document for reentry USA after I pass the green card interview? I will have my green card interview within the next few weeks, but I have an expired Malaysia passport. Malaysia government policy will not allowed renew expired passport from whom reside oversea. All Malaysian must renew its passport in Malaysia,if the passport expired, but Malaysia consulate will issue emergency certificate for traveling back to Malaysia only. Will the immigration officer stamp my expire passport or provide any document so that I can be assure can enter USA?

After you get your GC, You wont need a re-entry permit unless you plan to stay out of the US for over 1 year but less than 2 years.

If you are approved during your interview, my recommendation is for you to wait till you get your GC, go to your consulate and get the emergency certificate, travel back home and renew your passport.

If you are not approved during the interivew, then you should apply for I-131 incase you havent already done so, go to your consulate to get the emergency certificate and travel back home to renew your passport ONLY after your I-131 is apprvoed and you have it in your hand.

Ari4u, first of all thanks for the reply.

I was told that the immigration officer will stamped passing the interview in some kind of document, not the passport. Can I use that stamp document for reentry?

Thanks

The immigration officer stamps a temporary I-551 or ADIT stamp in your passport. There are some officers that does not stamp it if your passport is expire and you must wait until received your card. As I said "some" not all.

In any case for re-entry you need anyway a valid unexpired passport and your card or if the stamp is in your old passport you bring both passport since the indication that you are a US resident is the stamp or the card.

Good luck,
