I attended my naturalization interview on 1/29/2004. The interview itself went OK and I was given a form N-652 (Naturalization Interview Results) that said that my application has been recommended for approval, but a decision cannot yet be made about my application.
The reason that they cannot make a final decision is apparently due to the fact that there is another "file" floating around with the same name, date of birth, port-of-entry etc. but with a different A #. The officer who interviewed me said that until he take a look at that other file and determines what's happening, he cannot make a final decision.
He did point out that this is not anything to be too concerned about. Happens in about 10% of the cases and once he take a look at the other file and determines it is just an error, they will send me out a notification for the oath taking ceremony.
I wanted to find out if anybody else has run into this situation. Is this something I should be concerned about, or just wait? I am planning to travel to India in May. Will it be safe to do so before this is resolved? Am I likely to have any problems re-entering?
Any feedback / help / advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
