Hi everyone,

My case was recently approved, I currently have a vaild RTD, which has the green card approval stamp in it. I have accepted an offer from the UN to work in my COP, beginning in late May. I want to apply for a travel document. I understand from a previous post that it is ok to apply for travel document, even if you have a valid RTD. I just would apprecaite it if someon here could cofirm that I could do so.

Just for your information, as an LPR, you can work for an American company or the United Nations outside the US. Also, you can file a petition so that the time you spend outside the US will be counted toward your citizeship.

If u have a valid RTD why would u get another one? Is it close to expiration date?

Hello Gino, after read your post, I have a question for you. I recently applied for an UN"s job in my area, but in the application they asked me if I have any problem to travel around the world. My status for USCIS is "still pending". I have EAD (Employment Authorization). Any advice to me? My status is limiting my option?
Thanks

Let me take a stab at this.

When you have an asylum application pending you cannot leave the US without special USCIS permission. I am pretty sure they will not grant permission for the purpose you indicated.

Also after you receive an asylum grant you have wait 1 year before you can apply for your green card (which I assume is your goal). So you cannot work outside the country for at least one year.

Gino,

IF you have a GC in hand and you plan to work in COP. Why would you need a RTD? Having a RTD is like saying I can't get a passport from my country but you are planning to work there..so you shouldn't worry about any RTD.

Maybe a rentry permit but if you think you need one to re-enter the country, it is ok also.

FOrget RTD now that you are PR and plan to work in your COP.

devildog, I used to work a UN agency, while my case was pending. I did not have any problem traveling. If you're going to be stationed in the US, you will not have any problem traveling, as you will get a UN passport to travel abroad, and you will have an RTD to get back to the U.S. But, if you are going to be stationed outside the U.S., I would suggest you wait until you get your green card. Good luck.

wantmygcnow, I will be working in COP, but I will be working as an employee of the UN. I'm not going to renew my passport, I will be protected under the UN regulations. I don't need an RTD, but I don't think I will get the re-entry permit by the time leave, that's why I want to keep my valid RTD.
